About Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic technique that uses guided relaxation, intense concentration, and focused attention to achieve a heightened state of awareness, often referred to as a trance. This state is similar to being deeply absorbed in a book or a movie. When accessing your subconscious mind, hypnotherapy helps you address various issues, unlock their potential, and achieve lasting change.
How does hypnotherapy work?
Imagine your mind as an iceberg. The 10% above the water that you can actually see represents your conscious mind, which includes thoughts that you are aware of, rational thinking and decision-making. The 90% of the iceberg that is beneath the surface represents your subconscious mind, where memories, beliefs, emotions, unconscious programming and automatic behaviours reside. The is the reason why the subconscious mind is so powerful and can be harnessed with great effect with hypnotherapy.
Almost all of the programming that you live your daily life by is held within your subconscious mind. When we try to make changes, achieve our goals or improve any aspect of our life we are working with the understanding, reasoning and strength of the conscious mind. Remember this is only the tip of the iceberg, ie. 10% or less.
Imagine if you could harness the understanding, reasoning and strength of your subconscious mind – the other 90%? The odds of success suddenly start to feel very different. Real and sustainable changes become more than just a dream.
Imagine if you tried to run a marathon with only 10% of the strength and fitness needed and only managed to run the first 10% of the distance and then had to pull out of the run. You would not wonder why you failed, it would be easy to understand.
Hypnotherapy helps bridge the gap between the conscious and subconscious mind, allowing for deep-seated issues to be addressed and resolved. By working with the subconscious, clients can alter negative patterns, reinforce positive behaviours, and achieve personal growth and healing.
Is hypnotherapy safe?
Yes, hypnotherapy is completely safe. Clients are always in control during the session and cannot be made to do anything against their will. Hypnotherapy is a collaborative process where the therapist guides the client, who remains aware and engaged throughout.

What is the evidence base for hypnotherapy?
Numerous studies and clinical trials have demonstrated the efficacy of hypnotherapy in treating various conditions. It is recognized as a valid therapeutic approach by medical and psychological organizations worldwide. The effectiveness of hypnotherapy is well-documented, with evidence supporting its use in pain management, anxiety reduction, and behaviour modification, among other areas.
What can I expect from a hypnotherapy session?
During your first hypnotherapy session, we would spend some time talking through whatever issue you would like to address through hypnotherapy. I will ask you questions to understand the nature of your challenge or health issue and what your desired goals are. The information you provide is then used to create a completely individualised hypnotherapy session for you. The more detail and information you are able to provide will help to make the hypnotherapy session more effective. During the hypnotherapy part of the session you are taken into a relaxed, focused state using verbal cues, relaxation techniques, and imagery. This trance-like state allows you to access your subconscious mind more readily.
Will I be aware of what's happening during the session?
Yes, clients remain aware and in control throughout the session. They can hear, speak, and remember everything that occurs. Hypnotherapy is a collaborative process, and clients cannot be made to do anything they do not want to do.
How long does a typical session last?
The total session can last up to 90 minutes. The actual hypnotherapy part of the session may last for 20 to 50 minutes. Each session varies.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions required varies depending on the individual and the nature of the issue being treated. Some clients experience significant improvement after just one session, while others may benefit from a series of sessions to achieve their desired outcomes.
What should I do to prepare for a session?
Wear comfortable clothing and come with an open mind. It can be helpful to have a clear idea of the issue they want to address and any goals they hope to achieve through hypnotherapy.
If it is a long-standing or complex issue it may be helpful to take some time to make some notes of the details before your first session in order for you to remember more easily the relevant information for the session.
